WAUWATOSA, WI – Two of the Midwest's largest garden centers are expanding. Stein Gardens & Gifts, the nation's second largest IGC retailer, is adding a 16th store with the lease of Hawks Nursery's store and outdoor retail garden center space in Wauwatosa, WI. Hawks will continue to operate its landscaping services, according to documents filed with the city, the Wauwatosa Patch reports. In neighboring Minnesota, Gertens is preparing for a major expansion with the purchase of 80 acres from Buell's Landscape & Design in Hastings. Gertens will keep the property and greenhouses as a growing operation for now, but plans to open a second store there within a few years, the Pioneer Press reports. Stein ranks No. 2 in IGC Retailer's IGC 100 report with $72 million in sales; Gertens ranks No. 10 with an estimated $34.3 million annually.
